about

The origins of Black Ant are included here. A live improvised noise jam amongst high school friends on a Lazy Summer Day while transitioning from Sophomore to Juniors. This jam happened a month before accepting the Black Ant moniker. Recorded at Saki's house. Saki, the genius and close friend of now 20+ years. who introduced the idea of beat making to Black Ant when they were in middle school. The jam was later chopped into separate tracks by Black Ant in July of 2008.

Originally released on myspace. Now, it resurfaces here on bandcamp for the first time.

Inspirations include John Coltrane, Sun Ra, Built to Spill, Lightning Bolt, Hella, and Florida natives such as The Goslings, Laundry Room Squelchers, and of course, Kenny Millions.

"Miami's best kept secret might be it's noise scene. Stuff like The International Noise Conference (INC) was held frequently at Little Haiti's Churchills. I used to go to that stuff on annual basis. But even on a random Tuesday night, I grow up to some really insane performances from people like Kenny Millions with his Saxophone, and seeing The Laundry Room Squelchers really not give a fuck. I always wanted to perform at an INC, but, I wasn't as connected back then --I was more of a fly on the wall, instead of being an Ant in the World...Oh well...that's life." - Black Ant

credits

released July 30, 2008

Black Ant plays the Fender Strat with all the coils maxed out in the back, plus he added a whammy bar (not shown in photo). Connected guitar to the black Boss distortion fuzz pedal and the Orange boss one too. Played out of a 100 dollar mini amp from Kmart. "I can't recall the brand of the amp we used, but it was tiny..." - Black Ant.

Saki plays the Korg Mikrokorg before he sold it to Black Ant in 2010. The synth was connected to these big logitech surround sound computer speakers w/ a gnarly subwoofer (not shown in photo).

A guest appearance from Boy Jesus (Saki's little brother) on "Little Brother," crashing lids from the pots and pans.
